Welcome to Marinwood, San Rafael

It's easy to understand why Marinwood is a super popular destination for families, given its primo access to the 101 and the blissful feeling of being "away from it all" once arriving there.  It's also got a sweet, friendly reputation for community, maybe because of its attractive, well-organized Marinwood Community Center complete with pool, swim team, tennis program and even a "Camps" program operating during the summer and in school breaks that draws kids from around central Marin.  

When in Marinwood.....

  • Stock up on red vines and watch a Waterdevils swim meet.
  • Hit the local park and meet new friends.
  • Head to nearby Ignacio Valley Preserve open space for hiking/biking/running/horsebackriding.

Mary E. Silveira is part of the Dixie School District.  Though its scores rank somewhat lower than nearby Dixie, its students benefit from the same District-wide fundraising entity, Can Do, with enrichment in the form of PE, art, music, and technology.  There is also a GATE program for students who qualify.  There is a strong, active parent organization to support fundraising for Mary E. DIXIE ELEMENTARY

GREAT SCHOOLS RATING: 10/10  |  SCHOOL GRADE RATING: A

Dixie elementary is part of the Dixie School District.  Test scores at Dixie regularly top the County for students achieving state proficiency.  There is also a GATE program for students who qualify.  Like most schools in Marin County, there is a funding gap between what the school receives from the State and the cost of a high-quality education.  Read more about finding your way around a California School District here.  Dixie elementary school raises needed funds for "extras" like art, PE, music, and technology mainly through the District fundraising entity, Can Do, which pools money over the three elementary schools and one middle school in the Dixie School District.  Dixie also fundraises for its own school (separately from the other schools in the district) through the active Parent Club. MILLER CREEK MIDDLE SCHOOL

Miller Creek Middle School is part of the four schools in the highly regarded Dixie school district.  It is supported by the Can Do fundraising entity and parent clubs, which provide enrichment in the form of art, music, PE and technology.

High schoolers in this neighborhood usually choose to attend public Terra Linda High School, although they could choose to attend San Rafael High School.  

Popular private choices in the Dixie School District are Mark Day (San Rafael), St. Anselm's (San Anselmo), San Domenico (which has an efficient bus service from San Rafael to the San Anselmo campus), and Marin Academy (private high school in San Rafael) or Marin Catholic (Catholic high school, Greenbrae).

Marinwood's close proximity to the 101 makes it a slightly easier hop to San Francisco than from Lucas Valley.
