Kentfield

sun-drenched, woodsy serenity and plenty of space in the posh heartland of marin

Welcome to Kentfield

There are three main communities within Kentfield (flatter "Kentfield" proper; and woodsy Kent Woodlands or Murray Park).  Famously there is no "main street" or "downtown" in Kentfield.  For this reason, residents enjoy a large degree of peaceful anonymity.  They are perhaps likeliest to run into friends and neighbors at Woodland Market, an iconic Kentfield/Ross landmark and super popular shopping destination/hangout, but Kentfield residents could easily drive a few blocks to nearby, bustling Larkspur shops and restaurants bordering Kentfield on the South, or Ross/San Anselmo to the North, so there are plenty of attractive options in close range.  The lure of privacy has drawn celebrities on occasion (notably, Woody Harrelson), and Kentfield properties tend to be luxuriously draped across spacious lots with gorgeous views, and large, sunny pools are a common feature, so Kentfield residents are not exactly hard done by not having a "downtown."

when in kentfield...

  • Luxuriate by the pool.
  • Get into feverish debates with Ross friends over whether Woodlands is really "Ross" or "Kentfield."
  • Hike, bike or walk Tam trails. Trail heads are just a few minutes from your door, with some of the best views around.

Education

Bacich Elementary

GREAT SCHOOLS RATING: 9/10  |  SCHOOL GRADE RATING: c

Kentfield School District serves children in Kentfield and nearby Greenbrae.  There is currently one elementary (Bacich, K-4), and one middle school (Kent Middle School, 5-8). Funding and high enrollment are two hot-button issues in Kentfield public schools, like many other Marin school districts, but the recent passing of a 30 million dollar bond for the District means that Kentfield will be restructuring its campuses to deal with the issue of high enrollment.

The new construction will create three separate age divisions across two campuses (currently Bacich and Kent Middle) and will modernize the facilities at both locations, beginning with Kent Middle and scheduled to complete construction in 2019.  Bacich will become a school for K-3, thus decreasing numbers on the campus.  Kent Middle will serve two separate programs: 4-5, and 6-8.

Kentfield's tax revenue has historically qualified it for Basic Aid some years, but it currently (as of 2016) does not have Basic Aid status and must raise funds for art, music, PE and other enrichment not provided by state revenue, which is not uncommon in wealthy Marin County.  (For a more in-depth look at how California funds its school districts, check out "Survival Guide: Your California School District")  Kentfield has a strong, active fundraising structure set-up, in the form of KIK (Kentfield Invests in Kids), made easier by the fact that all funds raised by parents stay at the single school in their community.

Kent Middle

Great Schools Rating: 10/10 | School Grade Rating: A

Kent Middle is a high-performing middle school currently serving 6-8 graders in Kentfield.  The same fundraising structure applies to Kent Middle that exists at Bacich.  Planned construction (see above) will modernize the current facilities by 2019.

Other

In high school, Kentfield students are in the Tamalpais Union High School District, and generally attend Redwood High School in Larkspur.

Private schools are a reasonably popular choice for many families in Kentfield, especially for middle and high school, although most families in Kentfield attend the public school and many families move to Kentfield for the strong academic reputation of Kentfield School District.  Families moving into the district in years to come will enjoy the benefits of the new school bond and improved facilities that address the issue of high enrollment.  Among the most well-attended privates for Kentfield residents include: St. Patrick's (Larkspur), San Domenico (San Anselmo), St. Anselm's (San Anselmo), Mark Day (San Rafael), Marin Country Day (Corte Madera), and Branson School (High school - Ross).  It's a great idea to ask one of our carefully selected Hoodvibe realtors for more detailed information on public schools, and the latest news in the district.

Commute

by car to GG bridge: 25 minutes

What Kentfield gains in spacious tranquility it pays for somewhat in convenience to the 101. Driving in morning traffic can be a little bit of a bummer, but very doable for the glorious surroundings.

"We want to take this opportunity to thank you for all your help on our house hunt. As you know, we have been moved in for almost two months, and we absolutely love our new house and new neighborhood. Without a doubt, none of this would have been possible without you. As SF residents, we were uncertain about whether we wanted to move to Marin, and if so, what community would work best for us. Not only did you take the time to introduce us to the many options available in Marin, but you worked with us on all aspects of the process. You helped us understand differences between neighborhoods, schools, climates, commute times, etc. and then, once you better understood us, our personalities, and our goals, you proactively searched for the right fit. We were confident that you would show us every possible property!"

laura reinertsen and kristin sennett

These two phenomenal agents (since 2013 they've sold more than $135 million) are also consummate local experts who work tirelessly for their clients.  Laura and Kristin have lived in Marin County's most desirable areas for over 40 years.  Attending top local public and private schools themselves, in addition to raising children here, has informed their nuanced perspective on education options and what it's like to live in this community. Their combined background makes them a formidable pair, with Laura having worked as a top-performing Marin agent for over 20 years, and Kristin working as an executive recruiter (and managing numerous executive relocations) before joining Laura as an agent in 2002. These ladies have got your back.

"We didn't know Marin very well when we started looking for a house. Not only did Kristin and Laura help us find a wonderful home, they found us our dentist, landscaper, preschool, and the list goes on. We found that we could really trust their advice on many things, and they have both become friends to our family. We only wish we could see them as much as we did when we were house hunting. (Well-maybe not that much.) We appreciated the fact that Laura and Kristin are both Marin natives. They were appropriately candid about different towns and neighborhoods. They did a great job getting to know us so that they could find a house and a neighborhood that felt like home to us."
