Welcome to Belvedere
Belvedere truly is in a world of its own, in every way. Smattered across two gorgeous islands overlooking the Bay to San Francisco, it's obvious why both the Corinthian Yacht Club and the San Francisco Yacht club call Belvedere home. Demographically skewed to the older age range (who else can afford the average house price tag of close to 3 million dollars?), there are a solid showing of families with children enjoying the ultimate luxurious waterfront lifestyle.
when in Belvedere...
- Take the kids over to Belvedere Park to see friends and throw the ball around.
- Sail, kayak, or paddleboard in the quiet channel near the yacht club.
- Head to Blackie's pasture for a family picnic.
- Stroll down a car-free Main Street in nearby Tiburon on the last Friday of each month in summer for live music, wine, and dining al fresco.
- Catch a ferry to Angel Island and luxuriate in the natural splendor of the Bay Area.
Reed Elementary (K-2), Bel Aire Elementary (3-5)
Belvedere shares a school district, Reed Union, with Tiburon. Reed Union School District is a Basic Aid district, meaning it is far better funded than most nearby Marin school districts with lower tax revenue. It is also a district serving only one school (split into three different age ranges, with award-winning Del Mar serving 6-8 graders), and all extra funds raised (for example, through the active PTA) stay with Tiburon/Belvedere schools, making it much easier to raise large sums of money from parents than if the funds were going to be distributed among many schools across a district. Tiburon/Belvedere schools are attractive and well-maintained, and better able to stave off cutbacks due to California State budget constraints. Parents should expect to contribute time and money to maintain art, music and enrichment programs, like most Marin school districts.
High-schoolers attend a school in the Tamalpais Union School District, with most choosing nearby Tam (Mill Valley) or Redwood (Larkspur).
City privates are a popular choice, as are nearby options like St. Hilary's in Tiburon (Catholic, parochial), Marin Country Day (Corte Madera), and St. Patrick's (Larkspur) although families also move from San Francisco for their children to attend the solid public schools in Tiburon. Ask a Hoodvibe featured agent if you want to dig deeper into local school options.
FERRY TO SF: 20 MINUTES
Taking the Ferry to San Francisco is a popular, sensible option, given the long, slow drive to the 101 at rush hour. It's also a rather magnificent start and finish to the work day.
